i really think that you have a great view of experimental education. rope cuffs were a small activity used in my course to relay that the failure could still show some good could come of learning from mistakes. but i think that your way of showing them what seems impossible is not impossible works great for groups that struggle with group dynamics. i am still learning about this stuff so i want to know if you think my interpretation is correct. if not please explain. i will not be offended just let me know what i need to be thinking of.

hey michael,
i took your advise and read your article on the ropes cuffs. i must admit when i applyed it, it went a lot better. the ropes course i work for usually explains initiatives and then backs off to let the group figure everything out for themselves. but i think your way of guided discovery works a lot better. any other advice you have to share would be greatly appreciated. i like the way you facilitate.

We are hosting a camp conference in early April. I'm not sure if that would suit your needs, however we are offering an ACCT level 1 "challenge in" on that day as well.

Otherwise, I'd be happy to set something up. It's conference season, so I'm not around a lot. Let me know when is a good time for you.

Michael,
It was your leadership example that won me over. Your willingness to share and add to the adventure community is inspiring. Keep up the good work. I've used the birthday circle and watch it in some of my workshops this fall and winter. I've had great response from an initiative I call Bullring Mania. I learned it at last year's ACCT Conference from Chris Ortiz. You can see some short videos on my website under links or on my facebook page of different groups doing this initiative. I'm sure you've seen it before. Corporate, college and academic groups seem to really like it and its cheap to make all the props.
Peace.

Thanks for the positive comments on Square Wheels. I prefer to use my games as more direct team building applications but the cartoons have a lot of power to improve group processing capabilities and to set up a language of improvement that focuses on problems and not people. There is a great deal of information at the www.squarewheels.com website and I have a lot of articles available about facilitation and transformation and the like. Thanks again, for the comments!

Great Michael, Yes, well I have some decent articles on organizational capital, the need for team work, how adversity builds character in individuals and unites teams. So, maybe I will add an article or two as blog posts now and again. I am a huge believer in team building in this manner. It's great for confidence and leadership training. GREAT STUFF>

Hi Michael,
I have just responded to your request to comment on the Peter Jarvis model. You have also prompted me to find out more about it. My current interest is about the experience of reflection process itself, rather than the order in which things happen - although you can't have one without the other.
all the best,
Roger

Hey Michael,

Thanks for writing & the compliment on the photos! Yeah, the ropes listserv is still going - besides the recent discussion of Challenge by Choice, it's been fairly quiet lately. thedavewave.com has been a work in progress since 1997. Finally settled on the blog format a couple years ago, using Google's Blogger service & tweaking the code to make it "mine."
