Erin,
I used to work at Lutheridge (www.llmi.net), a Christian Camp & Conference Center in Arden, NC (Near Asheville -- Western NC). They also have a sister camp near Boone, NC, called Lutherock. Another sister camp (Lutheranch) has also been built recently in GA somewhere, but I'm not sure where. Also in Eastern NC, Camp Don Lee (www.donleecenter.org) is in Pamlico County. I'm sure there are more. Another resource is the Christian Adventure Association (http://www.caainfo.org/discover.php). I am a recreational therapist & would love to someday have a Christian Camp in Eastern NC. I hope this helps. If you need anything else, please let me know. -- Melissa <><</body>
are you looking for a particular area of the country?
I know of a really good program that may be a good fit, however i am not sure whether the supervisor has a masters degree or not. it is affiliated with christian children's home of ohio. (located near wooster) it is called poplar ridge. The guy who runs it is named randy steiner. he is a real great guy, and probably more connected in the industry than i am. if he can't help you he may be able to locate someone who can better than I.
we are a faith based operation. we operate completely on private funding through churches and individuals throughout the state of illinois. that way we are able to share Christ freely with our kids. However that also means that money is not easy to come by for us, and we currently do not have the budget to support anybody else in a facilitator or counselor role like you are probably seeking. I am on my own. It is alot of work, but i consider this my ministry not my job. If i can help you any other way let me know.
Erin, I worked for 2 residential treatment facilities in the Grand Rapids Mi, area. The 2 became one, which is Wedgwood Christian Services 616-942-2110. There model is using activity therapists in the homes to work with the kids. Certain homes use more of an adventure approach than others. You can certainly contact them to find out what their needs might be or who to connect to. The supervisor of the program is Kathy Van Houten.
