Tarzan's Jungle (swinging tires)

I have a question about an element called (at least here) Tarzan's Jungle. It is eight tires hanging from ropes and the challenge is to get from one side to the other by crossing on the tires. My question is twofold; One, what does this do for us? Why would I choose this element over another? Two, and this one may be obvious if the first is answered, how would you debrief this activity? Several of us were at a course today that had this element and no one present understood the payoff for the activity.
